Overview

Program Objectives

The 1st Education Music Master’s Program aims to train creative music researchers equipped with investigative personalities. To serve that purpose, all students acquire a comprehensive music knowledge by taking courses from areas like music history, music theory, music technology and music management regardless of their concentration areas. In addition to these fundamentals, students obtain theoretical and practical knowledge in their concentration areas by taking compulsory courses in their concentration areas and elective courses open to all areas. Students graduate from this program by writing a Master’s Thesis.

Application Conditions and Requirements
The 1st Education Music Master’s Program applications are carried out according to the terms specified by Istanbul Technical University Graduate Level Regulations and Senate Principles.
- GPA: Not required.
- ALES/GMAT/GRE: Talep edilmemektedir.
- Concentration area requirements: There are no department / concentration area requirements.
- Additional documents: Two letters of recommendations must be submitted by the candidate to verify their motivation and determination.
  Canditates must prepare a portfolio relevant to their application area to submit to the applications committee.
Program Structure
- 1st Education Music Master’s Program is subject to Istanbul Technical University Graduate Level Regulations and Senate Principles.
- The educational language of the program is %100 English.
- The number of credits required for graduation is 36.
- Excluding the time reserved for scientific preparation, the completion time of the 1st Education Master’s Program is 4 terms with the maximum limit of 6 terms, starting from the term of first course registration, and irrespective of the condition whether they registered each term or not. Students who:
- cannot complete their required courses with credits and their seminar course within 4 terms

- cannot fulfill the success conditions/criteria of the program

- fail in their master’s thesis, or cannot enter their thesis defense

are dismissed from the university. (Istanbul Technical University Graduate Level Regulations – Section 7)
- The preparatory semester classes are 0 credit classes.
- Each course is 3 credits, and to graduate 12 courses should be finished in total. At least 6 courses have to be from compulsory courses.
- Compulsory courses have 4 groups which are “Music Theory”, “Music History”, “Ethnomusicology” and “Other Compulsory Courses”. Each student has to take at least one compulsory course from all of these compulsory groups in order to complete their 6 compulsory courses.
- The remaining courses could be selected from the “other compulsory courses” and “elective courses” groups for both terms.
- Students graduate from the 1st Education Program by writing a Master’s Thesis and receive a “Music Masters” diploma.
