The “Medinea on Air” Project, of which ITU MIAM is a partner, will continue to work for 2 years with the support of the Erasmus+ Programme.
The Erasmus+ Program, funded by the European Union and run by the Medinea Network, of which ITU MIAM is a partner, continues its projects between 2021 and 2023. The program, which will be coordinated by the Aix-en-Provence Festival, brings together 3 leading music schools and 3 cultural institutions from 6 countries in the Mediterranean basin:
Festival d’Aix-en-Provence (France) – Project Coordinator
Istanbul Technical University – MIAM (Turkey) – Project Partner
Ente Musicale di Nuoro (Italy) – Project Partner
ARC Research and Consultancy (Malta) – Project Partner
Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (Portugal) – Project Partner
University of Ljubljana – Academy of Music (Slovenia) – Project Partner
Within the scope of the program, young artists under the age of 30 from Euro-Mediterranean culture (classical music performers and conductors, traditional/jazz music improvisers and composers), members of the Medinea network and relevant partners of the network (24 institutions) will come together. This new program aims to adapt to the current pandemic conditions with a mixed system that combines online and face-to-face activities. In addition to the Medinea sessions to be held in Gozo (Malta), Aix-en-Provence (France), Nuoro (Italy) and Ljubljana (Slovenia) and a symphonic session that will provide an orchestral experience, Medima network is also planning a series of online trainings called “Medinea On Air”.
Past projects carried out by ITU MIAM within the scope of the program
The partnership of ITU MIAM and Medinea goes back to 2019. In 2019, 13 young musicians from Mediterranean countries came together in Istanbul between 14-29 April. During this period, the musicians had the opportunity to work with the percussionist Mısırlı Ahmet. The ensemble, which composed collaborative works under the leadership of jazz artist Fabrizio Cassol, recorded these works at ITU MİAM Sound Recording Studio. The compositions that emerged in a 15-day study met with the audience with a concert held on April 29, 2019 at ITU Maçka Mustafa Kemal Amphitheater.
What is the Medinea Network?
Established by the Aix-en-Provence Festival, the Medinea Network (Mediterranean Incubator of Emerging Artists) supports the professional integration of young musicians by developing intercultural projects that increase dialogue, transfer and mobility in the Mediterranean basin. The network consists of cultural and academic institutions, including ITU MIAM, which are closely interested in the dynamics of change and cooperation in the music industry at an international level.
