Artist’s Approach to Participatory Music

Ahmet Ozan Baysal, Recep Gül, Alexandros Charkiolakis

Today, artists (composers, performers etc.) demonstrate a high tendency towards relatively new of the participatory art concept. Artists nowadays take into consideration the demands and interests of audiences from intercultural society all over the world in the creative processes of art. The strict and conventional roles of the artist and audience have begun to change and get closer. Many artists need to step into the society that become more cosmopolitan and more based on a variety of cultures. Participatory projects gain importance because this is where professionals meet amateurs, where the artists meet the public and in the end where people meet people.

In this panel, it is planned to address the following questions below:

1) What is participatory music? What are the differences of participatory music and presentational music?

2) New roles of the artists (composers, performers etc.) and audiences in participatory music creations.

3) Why do we need participatory music projects?

4) What is important to take into consideration when starting a participatory music project?
