The intercultural creation sessions of the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra (MYO) are designed to a dozen of future professional musicians from the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region (France) and from the Mediterranean practicing musical improvisation (jazz, traditional musics…) if composition. Those training sessions offer an intercultural experience of an ensemble life in creation, rehearsals and concerts on tour within the stimulating frame of the Festival d’Aix. The intercultural creation sessions of the MYO provides a unique intercultural creation and collective composition training where a dozen of young artists can benefit from the experimented coaching of Fabrizio Cassol, jazzman and composer, in order to produce their own collective and original music.
Candidates should be aged between 18 to 31
Level required Very good instrumental or vocal level
High practice of the musical improvisation, even the capacity in the composition
Careeroriented higher studies in music. It is not compulsory to be a student to apply to this session
A first experience within an intercultural ensemble will be appreciated
During the session, the training will be conducted in English.
Musical practices Open to all instruments and voices
Musical improvisers: traditional and Mediterranean musics, jazz…
High instrumental level / Ease with musical collective practices.
During the audition, the candidate has to perform:
A standard tune from the musicians’ original musical field (jazz standard, traditional tune, etc.)
A personal composition or an arrangement
Candidates are required to demonstrate proficiency in their chosen idiom, including instrumental technique and improvisation skills.
The musician has to perform one of the two pieces as a soloist.
The audition of each musician will last maximum 15 minutes, including a short interview in English or French with the panel about the candidate’s musical journey and his/her projects for the future.
